Afribit Kibera Announces “Africa Bitcoin Day” Celebration in Soweto West, Kibera

EVENTS COMMUNITY

Afribit Kibera has announced plans to host Africa Bitcoin Day in Soweto West, Kibera, Kenya.

The announcement was shared via the organisation’s official X account, confirming that the event will take place on 23rd May 2026 at 2PM in Kibera.

The upcoming Africa Bitcoin Day is being organised in collaboration with key members of the African Bitcoin community and is expected to bring together members of the local Bitcoin community, educators, and participants in Afribit’s circular economy initiative.

Focus on Grassroots Bitcoin Awareness

Africa Bitcoin Day is positioned as a community-focused event aimed at increasing awareness and participation in Bitcoin education and usage within informal settlements.

Afribit’s broader mission in Kibera has consistently centered on:

  • Bitcoin education
  • Merchant onboarding
  • Financial literacy
  • Circular economy development

These initiatives form the foundation of its ongoing work in the region.

Built on Existing Bitcoin Circular Economy Efforts

The announcement comes as Afribit continues to expand its Bitcoin circular economy model in Kibera, where residents earn and spend Bitcoin within local networks.

The project has already onboarded multiple small merchants and community participants, creating a localized economic loop powered by Bitcoin transactions.

This structure has been central to Afribit’s grassroots approach to financial inclusion in Nairobi’s informal settlements.

Strengthening Community Participation in Bitcoin Education

Afribit has consistently emphasized education as the foundation of its adoption strategy.

Through workshops and community training, residents are introduced to:

  • Bitcoin wallet usage
  • Peer-to-peer transactions
  • Financial sovereignty concepts
  • Practical merchant adoption models

The upcoming Africa Bitcoin Day is expected to further reinforce these educational efforts.
