My First Bitcoin Launches Education App Closed Beta and Overhauls Bitcoin Diploma for Global Educators

EDUCATION INNOVATION PRESS RELEASE

My First Bitcoin has announced major updates to its open-source Bitcoin education tools, retiring its old learning management system and introducing a new Education App in closed beta while releasing a shorter, more modular Bitcoin Diploma.

The changes, detailed in posts on X and accompanying articles on the organization’s website, shift emphasis from self-paced courses to community-led, in-person and online classes facilitated by independent educators worldwide.Myfirstbitcoin

My First Bitcoin initially focused on free, beginner-friendly Bitcoin classes that reached more than 27,000 students, primarily in public schools. After ending its partnership with El Salvador’s Ministry of Education in 2025 and closing local operations, the group pivoted to supporting a decentralized Education Network.

As of recent updates, this includes roughly 99 independent communities across 44 countries (with earlier figures citing 80+ projects and 213 educators across 48 countries).

The organization provides open-source curricula, training, and infrastructure while emphasizing independence, impartiality, and Bitcoin-only education.

Retiring LearnWorlds and Moving to Community-Led Learning

In an October 28, 2026 X post, My First Bitcoin stated it is retiring its LearnWorlds learning management system on October 30. “We’re moving away from self-paced courses toward a more connected, community-led learning experience,” the organization wrote.

All teaching materials remain freely available on the curriculum website. The move aligns with the broader strategy of empowering local educators rather than delivering centralized online courses.

The New Bitcoin Diploma: Shorter, Modular, and Localized

Released around October 26, 2026, the updated Bitcoin Diploma is roughly half the length of the previous version. It has a minimum of about eight hours of instruction with no fixed upper limit, allowing delivery in a single intensive day, a weekend, a week, or spread over a month.

Educator feedback had shown that the earlier 10-chapter, roughly 10-week format led to higher dropout rates.

The diploma is organized into four flexible modules that need not be taught in a fixed order:

  • Understanding Money (the problem): Why money exists and trade-offs in modern systems.
  • How Bitcoin Works (the solution): Core principles and properties.
  • Using Bitcoin Safely (action): Practical skills such as wallets and self-custody.
  • Bitcoin in Your Community (connect): Local adoption, tools, merchants, and regulations.

Roughly half the content is theoretical and half practical. Advanced topics (detailed mining, Lightning Network specifics, and material from a retired “Bitcoin for Organizations” track) move to optional post-graduation modules.

Competency-based assessment focuses on students being able to explain concepts and demonstrate safe Bitcoin use rather than mere attendance.

An activity library with around 30 exercises supports hands-on learning. The curriculum remains fully open source. Educators who prefer the prior version can continue using it while transitioning.

Education App Enters Closed Beta

The companion Education App, entering closed beta with a small group of Education Network communities, consolidates previously fragmented tools (LMS, community hub, website resources) into one place.

Key features include:

  • Passwordless login via email code, with profiles that can stay private.
  • Cohort creation and discovery (filter by language, online/in-person, timezone); automatic schedule building from a start date; optional Google Meet links; student reminders; quizzes unlocked after sessions.
  • Learning resources with a built-in lexicon, activity library (filterable by duration, program, and format), and educator guides.
  • Community map, leaderboard (points for impact such as people taught), activity feed, and Lightning-based donations (via Geyser or similar) to communities or cohorts.
  • Contribution tools for resources, translations, and activities.

The app is currently a web application built in public with educator feedback. Broader access to the Education Network is planned next, followed by general availability.

Native Apple and Google app-store releases are targeted around April 2027. Messaging and additional social features are in the pipeline. Communities interested in the beta can contact Education Network coordinator Arnold.

These updates support My First Bitcoin’s long-term model: create practical open-source tools and curricula so independent educators and communities can teach effectively on their own terms, in their own languages, with local relevance.

Founder John Dennehy has described the overarching goal as scaling impact from one nation to a global audience while keeping education independent of external capture.
