Once a Dream, Now Reality: Inside Dada Hub, Africa’s First Bitcoin Developer Space for Women
A powerful vision has taken physical form in the heart of Nairobi. What began as late-night strategy sessions and community dreams has materialized into Dada Hub—Africa’s first physical sanctuary dedicated to empowering female Bitcoin builders.
Led by Dada Devs, the technical arm of the Bitcoin Dada movement founded by Lorraine Marcel, the hub is more than just a workspace. It is a specialized laboratory where African women code, collaborate, and ship real-world products tailored to the continent’s unique financial landscape.

From Virtual Community to Physical Infrastructure
For years, Bitcoin Dada—the non-profit focused on training and mentoring African female software engineers—operated through virtual programs and workshops. However, the mission always aimed for a physical destination. The reality of building “Freedom Tech” in Africa often involves overcoming barriers like unreliable power, inconsistent internet, and a lack of dedicated collaboration space.
In early 2026, that dream became reality. The launch of Dada Hub provides:
Stable Infrastructure: Consistent power and high-speed internet for intensive, deep-work coding sessions.
Collaboration Zones: A resource-rich environment for research, prototyping, and peer-to-peer code review.
Safe Space: A sanctuary designed specifically for women to focus on Bitcoin, Lightning, and AI integrations without distraction.
The UI/UX Residency: Designing for the African Context
The hub’s impact was immediate, hosting a flagship UI/UX Residency that recently wrapped its first intensive week. The program emphasized that Bitcoin tools aren’t just about code—they are about the human experience on the ground.
Facilitated by experts like Mogashni Naidoo, Lilian Nwamaife, Adeyemi Matthew, and Elizabeth Musanga, the residency focused on:
Low-Connectivity Solutions: Designing interfaces that remain functional in resource-constrained environments.
Trust & Accessibility: Creating wireframes and design systems that prioritize cultural relevance for African users.
Sprinting to MVP: Moving from Figma components to functional prototypes that integrate Bitcoin and Lightning elements.
The Vision of Lorraine Marcel and Dada Devs
Under the leadership of Lorraine Marcel, Bitcoin Dada has evolved from an educational initiative into an engineering powerhouse. By establishing Dada Hub, the movement is ensuring that “Dada” (the Swahili word for sister) remains synonymous with technical sovereignty.
Kenya is already a global leader in mobile money. Now, through this physical node, it is positioning itself as a primary center for Bitcoin innovation. These developers are not just participants in the global ecosystem; they are homegrown talent capable of creating tools that solve local problems, from peer-to-peer payments to financial inclusion in remote areas.
