DevFest Kaduna and Btrust kick off 4-day virtual Bitcoin technical class
The Bitcoin track at DevFest Kaduna 2026 starts today with a 4-day virtual technical class. Run with Btrust, the sessions prepare developers for the DevFest Kaduna Bitcoin Build-a-thon on 29 October.
DevFest Kaduna, organised by the GDG Kaduna community, bills itself as Northern Nigeria’s premier tech festival. This year it adds a dedicated Bitcoin developer program, with Btrust as its Bitcoin track partner and premier sponsor.
Four sessions, four Bitcoin mentors
Each class runs from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM, and an experienced Bitcoin mentor leads each one:
- 20 October: Introduction to Bitcoin, with Oyin
- 21 October: Lightning Network, LND and developer tools, with Abdullahi
- 22 October: Bitcoin SDKs and APIs, with Mubarak
- 24 October: Open-source contribution, with Shehu
The sessions move from Bitcoin fundamentals to the tools developers need to ship. As a result, participants should arrive at the Build-a-thon ready to build rather than still learning the basics.
What the classes lead into
The DevFest Kaduna Bitcoin Build-a-thon takes place in person on 29 October. Teams will build new Bitcoin and Lightning applications from scratch, or contribute directly to open-source Bitcoin projects, competing for prize pools.
Projects then demo on the main stage at DevFest Kaduna on 31 October at Arewa House, Kaduna. Organisers say physical attendance is required for the developer labs and builds.
Why Btrust is backing DevFest Kaduna
Btrust is a non-profit that funds, trains and mentors Bitcoin developers in the Global South. It selected the DevFest Kaduna Bitcoin track for its first batch of 2026 event grants.
According to Btrust, adding a Bitcoin track to an established developer conference reaches engineers who already have the skills but are not yet in the Bitcoin ecosystem. In other words, it brings Bitcoin to where developers already gather.
How to join the DevFest Kaduna Bitcoin track
It is not too late. Developers can still register for the Bitcoin Build-a-thon through the registration form on the DevFest Kaduna website. General DevFest Kaduna passes are available on the GDG Kaduna City event page, with a free pass option. The track targets mid-to-senior developers, so come ready to write code.
