In a major boost for Bitcoin education and adoption across Malawi, Bitcoin Boma successfully concluded its groundbreaking
Bitcoin Education & Development Program at the University of Malawi (UNIMA) on March 31, 2026.

The free three-day initiative, organized by the not-for-profit Bitcoin Boma in collaboration with Trezor Academy, delivered practical Bitcoin knowledge to university students eager to understand the economic, social, and environmental benefits of Bitcoin in Malawi.

Overview of the 3-Day Bitcoin Education Journey

The program was designed as a complete hands-on learning experience:

  • Day 1 – Introduction to Bitcoin, its history, and the fundamentals of sound money.
  • Day 2 – Practical training on wallets and the Lightning Network, giving students real-world self-custody skills.

Day 3 Highlights: Real-World Bitcoin Use Cases & Merchant Onboarding

The final day, led by Kondwani was described as “action-packed” and focused entirely on practical implementation. Participants explored:

  • Real-world Bitcoin use cases that go far beyond speculation.
  • Proven merchant onboarding strategies to accelerate Bitcoin acceptance in local Malawian communities.
  • How Bitcoin empowers individuals, businesses, and entire economies with financial sovereignty.

The sessions emphasized Bitcoin’s role as a tool for everyday financial freedom in Malawi – from remittances and cross-border payments to protecting savings against inflation.

The day wrapped up with insightful interviews and networking sessions, reinforcing that Bitcoin education is about building lasting community and collaboration.
