Africa Free Routing Opens Applications for Lightning Developer Bootcamp in Addis Ababa

EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT

Africa Free Routing is bringing its next Lightning Developer Bootcamp to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a five-day immersive programme running from July 27 to 31, 2026 at ALX Ethiopia’s Lideta Hub. The bootcamp is designed to equip aspiring and experienced developers with practical Bitcoin and Lightning Network skills through hands-on training, real-world project building, and open-source collaboration.

Participants will work through Bitcoin fundamentals, learn to run and manage their own Bitcoin Core nodes, explore Lightning Network concepts, and build Lightning-powered applications using various development tools and SDKs. The programme closes with a collaborative hackathon where participants apply what they have learned to develop practical Bitcoin solutions.

Scholarships Available for Promising Builders

Organisers have made financial access a priority, a limited number of scholarships are available for qualified participants who are passionate about Bitcoin, committed to open monetary infrastructure, and ready to contribute to the ecosystem in Africa. The scholarship is designed to ensure financial barriers do not prevent talented developers from accessing high-quality Bitcoin education.

Ethiopia's Growing Developer Ecosystem

Ethiopia is home to a rapidly growing Bitcoin ecosystem, the country currently accounts for roughly 2.5% of the global Bitcoin hashrate through its hydropower-backed mining operations, and its developer community is increasingly visible in global open-source Bitcoin projects. The Addis Ababa bootcamp extends Africa Free Routing’s training footprint into a city that is already central to Africa’s technology infrastructure conversation.
