BTC Shule Announces the Nakamoto Hope Center, a Physical Bitcoin Education Hub in Rural Burundi
A Physical Hub for Burundi's Bitcoin Builders
BTC Shule, the Burundian Bitcoin community founded by social entrepreneur Belyï Nobel Kubwayo, has announced the Nakamoto Hope Center in Winteko village, a nearly complete brick-and-mortar hub designed to serve as a permanent home for tech training, digital skills development, and Bitcoin education. The centre will support BTC Shule’s existing circular economy where 14 merchants and one hotel already accept Bitcoin, powered by an offline Cashu and Lightning system that works even in areas with unreliable internet connectivity.
The Nakamoto Hope Center is not being built from a conference announcement or a grant press release. It is being built from the ground, literally, in a rural Burundian village where BTC Shule has been doing the work since it launched. Kubwayo translated the Bitcoin White Paper into Kirundi, the local language, because education that people cannot read in their own language is not education. That same principle runs through everything BTC Shule builds: start local, stay local, build what the community actually needs.
What Already Exists in Winteko
The centre arrives on top of an ecosystem that is already functioning. BTC Shule has trained over 40 youths through MyFirstBitcoin programmes, hosted Burundi’s first Bitcoin hackathon, runs BitDevs Bujumbura for developer meetups and open-source collaboration, and partners with Trezor Academy on self-custody and security training. The circular economy in Winteko is small but real: merchants accept Bitcoin for everyday goods, and the community uses Cashu ecash for offline transactions when connectivity is limited.
For a country where state control over financial access leaves little room for independent alternatives, a physical hub that combines Bitcoin education with practical merchant adoption and developer training represents critical infrastructure that no online programme can replace.
