Gitega Bitcoin Developers Prepare for Eighth Socratic Seminar on Cashu Ecash Innovation

Gitega, Burundi – February 12, 2026. 

The burgeoning Bitcoin developer community in Gitega is poised to host its eighth Socratic Seminar on February 13, 2026, centering on the innovative Cashu ecash protocol and practical mint implementation. This event, organized by BitDevs Gitega, aims to engage local developers, educators, and Bitcoin enthusiasts in the intricate workings of privacy-preserving digital cash.

The seminar will delve into CashuBTC, a free and open-source Chaumian ecash system designed for Bitcoin. Cashu allows users to deposit Bitcoin via the Lightning Network into a mint, receiving ecash tokens that maintain the anonymity of physical cash transactions. Attendees will participate in “mint exploration” activities, gaining hands-on experience in operating Cashu mints.

Since its inception, BitDevs Gitega has embraced the principles of the original BitDevs NYC model, becoming a cornerstone for technical Bitcoin education in Burundi. The Socratic Seminars encourage participant-driven discussions, focusing on real-world applications of Bitcoin technology, including Lightning Network enhancements and local adaptations.

Previous seminars have tackled a wide array of topics, with the most recent gathering occurring on January 23, 2026. The community also provides extensive support through grants and networking opportunities, nurturing the next generation of open-source contributors in East Africa.
