The Surfer Kids & BitcoinEkasi: Surfing + Bitcoin for Real Empowerment

The Surfer Kids Non-Profit runs a core surf program five days a week for up to 50 children from Mossel Bay’s poorest township.

In 2021, the organisation launched BitcoinEkasi. An extension inspired by Bitcoin Beach in El Salvador. To build a circular Bitcoin economy within the same community it serves. The dual focus on surfing excellence and financial sovereignty is proving transformative.

Avethandwa’s podium finish is living proof that consistent coaching, mental conditioning, and community support can produce world-class athletes from any background.

What This Means for South African Surfing:

  • First podium at a pro junior event for The Surfer Kids.
  • Strong signal that township talent is ready to compete at the highest junior level.
