Btrust Builders Graduates 87 Developers Across Four Pathways in Q2 and Q3 2026
Btrust Builders has concluded its Q2 and Q3 2026 cohorts. Between May and July 2026, the program ran four simultaneous pathways: Rust for Bitcoiners, Language Clubs, Mastering Bitcoin, and Learn Bitcoin from the Command Line. Together, the cohorts recorded 204 enrollments and 87 successful graduations across developers from Africa and beyond.
Furthermore, the graduating class represents the broadest technical range Btrust Builders has produced in a single cycle. Some graduates ran a Bitcoin node for the first time. Others built their own transaction tools, explored Rust codebases, or shipped capstone projects that are already being used in the wider community.
Rust for Bitcoiners: 51 graduates from 9 countries
The largest cohort of the cycle brought together 102 developers from 15 countries over six weeks. Participants joined from across Africa and from Germany, Brazil, India, Pakistan, and the United States. Twelve chaperones and teaching assistants supported the group throughout. By the end, 51 developers from nine countries graduated.
The pathway used The Bitcoiner’s Intro to Rust by BTCdemy alongside weekly technical exercises that connected Rust directly to Bitcoin development. Specifically, participants parsed transactions, implemented CompactSize encoding, serialised transaction components, constructed scripts, and worked toward interacting with Bitcoin Core through RPC.
The quotes from graduates tell the story clearly. Hamsa Harcourt from Nigeria described the shift in her understanding: “Before this cohort, Bitcoin felt like a black box. Going through it in Rust forced me to understand it at the lowest level. I wasn’t just calling APIs, I was building the primitives myself.”
Rose Njuguna from Kenya highlighted the community as equally important: “What stood out most of all was the community. Learners who freely shared resources from day one, a chaperone who consistently pointed us to the right sites and repos. Everyone was genuinely invested in helping each other grow.”
Several graduates identified contributing to rust-bitcoin, BDK, and LDK as their next steps. Others plan to publish technical articles, start local Bitcoin developer meetups, or join the Btrust Open Source Fellowship.
Language Clubs: 8 graduates from 5 countries
The Language Clubs pathway ran in two tracks: Python and C++. Specifically, 10 developers joined the Python track and seven the C++ track, with four chaperones and teaching assistants supporting the group across four homegroups. By the end, eight developers from five countries graduated.
The six-week curriculum combined Exercism practice with Bitcoin-focused tasks, culminating in a capstone involving Bitcoin Core RPC. The pathway gave developers a practical bridge between programming language fluency and Bitcoin development.
Ndikumana Idris from Burundi described the practical value clearly: “It helped me improve my Python skills and also strengthened my understanding of Bitcoin development using RPC.”
A C++ track participant highlighted the accountability structure: “The Language Clubs pathway helped me find a balance between learning and doing. Having accountability partners and silent cheerleaders made it impossible to quit.”
Mastering Bitcoin: 12 graduates from 7 countries
The second Mastering Bitcoin cohort of 2026 brought together 42 developers from 14 countries over eight weeks. Notably, women made up 26% of enrolled learners. Eight chaperones and teaching assistants supported the group. By the end, 12 developers from seven countries graduated.
Participants worked through Mastering Bitcoin: Programming the Open Blockchain, Third Edition by Andreas Antonopoulos, covering transactions, wallets, cryptography, scripting, networking, mining, and consensus from first principles.
Ummu Salmat Abdullahi from Nigeria described the breakout sessions as the highlight: “Hearing different perspectives, explaining concepts together, and learning from others made the material more engaging and memorable.”
Bibi Shania Tinkouree from Mauritius captured the practical transformation: “I went from knowing almost nothing about Bitcoin to understanding its core concepts and even learning how to run my own pruned node on my machine at home.”
Learn Bitcoin from the Command Line: 16 graduates from 4 countries
The second CLI cohort of 2026 brought together 43 developers from seven African countries over seven weeks. Seven chaperones and teaching assistants supported the group. By the end, 16 developers from four countries graduated, achieving a 37.2% graduation rate, up from 31.1% in the first CLI cohort of the year.
Participants worked directly with Bitcoin Core, running nodes, creating wallets, constructing transactions, inspecting scripts, and exploring multisignature transactions, timelocks, PSBTs, and Bitcoin Script.
Wisdom Osuji from Nigeria described the moment understanding clicked: “I had heard terms like multisig, CSV timelocks, P2SH, SegWit — I could honestly list them all day. But hearing about them and actually understanding them are two very different things.”
Collins Okoth from Kenya went further. Specifically, he built BitScope, a Bitcoin Core learning and experimentation platform, as his capstone project. “The capstone project was especially meaningful because it allowed me to apply what I had learned by building BitScope, a practical Bitcoin Core learning and experimentation platform.”
What comes next
Graduation is a milestone, not the end. Specifically, some graduates are now participating in the Btrust Open Source Fellowship, moving from structured learning into hands-on Bitcoin open-source contribution. Others are building tools, publishing technical write-ups, sharing knowledge in local developer communities, and preparing for the next Builders pathway.

A developer in Burundi connected Python fluency directly to Bitcoin RPC. Developers from Nigeria, Kenya, Burundi, and across the continent are now identifying LDK, BDK, and rust-bitcoin as their next open-source targets.
This is what the African Bitcoin developer pipeline looks like when it is working. Not just training numbers, but developers who leave with working knowledge, working code, and a clear sense of where to go next.
