DadaHub Residency Week 3: African Innovators Master Applied AI for Bitcoin & Fintech Solutions

The DadaHub Residency continues to push the boundaries of African-led innovation. In Week 3, the focus shifted to applied AI — moving beyond theory to build practical tools that address real challenges across language, access, and infrastructure in African contexts.
Led by DadaDevs, the women-led initiative building Bitcoin solutions for Africa, residents spent the week developing AI applications designed specifically for local needs. The program emphasized hands-on learning, with participants creating everything from chatbots to Bitcoin-powered financial tools.
Day 1: Building Strong AI Foundations
The week kicked off with expert-led sessions from Wandiology and Cedrouse Roll Residents explored the full AI landscape, including models, embeddings, and the unique hurdles of African language processing.
Sessions quickly turned practical. Participants:
- Worked directly with model APIs.
- Mastered prompt structuring techniques.
- Built simple chatbot systems tailored for local use cases.
By the end of Day 1, every resident had started their own chatbot project — a clear sign of the residency’s action-oriented approach.
Day 2: AI Meets Bitcoin and Fintech
Day 2 brought AI into the financial world. Judy Imasuen from the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) opened the morning with insights on how AI intersects with fintech and Bitcoin.Key topics included:
- Fraud detection and risk assessment.
- Natural language interfaces.
- Voice-based systems for low-literacy users.
In the afternoon, Harrison Friedes (also from HRF) guided residents as they began building AI-powered Bitcoin tools. Projects ranged from payment assistants to transaction analysis systems — all designed for real-world African applications.
Day 3: From Code to Production
The final day focused on deployment — turning prototypes into usable tools. Led by Richland and revelation.rsc, residents learned how to:
- Manage API costs effectively.
- Optimize for low-bandwidth environments.
- Ensure reliability in real African infrastructure conditions.
By the close of Week 3, participants had successfully deployed their AI tools, conducted user testing, and begun integrating the technology into their broader applications.
