Btrust Builders Kicks Off First Live Cohort of Mastering Bitcoin Program for African Developers

LIGHTNING NETWORK COMMUNITY EDUCATION

Africa – March 11, 2026.

In a significant step toward decentralizing Bitcoin development, Btrust Builders has launched the inaugural live cohort of its Mastering Bitcoin program. This initiative brings together aspiring developers, expert faculty, and the Btrust team for an in-depth exploration of Bitcoin’s inner workings. Aiming to equip African software engineers with the skills to contribute to open-source Bitcoin and Lightning projects.

The program, which commenced this week, draws from the foundational chapters of “Mastering Bitcoin” by renowned author Andreas Antonopoulos.

The program started this week. Participants study Andreas Antonopoulos’s Mastering Bitcoin. They explore Bitcoin as peer‑to‑peer technology, not just currency.

Key Highlights from the Launch Week

During the initial sessions, the cohort focused on core concepts, including:

  • Bitcoin’s Ecosystem Components: Discussions covered wallets, cryptographic keys, transactions, the peer-to-peer network, and the role of miners in maintaining the blockchain.
  • Transaction Lifecycle: Participants examined the step-by-step process of a Bitcoin transaction. From creation in a wallet, broadcasting across the network, validation by nodes, to final inclusion in the blockchain.
  • Open Protocols and Verification: Emphasis was placed on how Bitcoin’s open protocols allow anyone to participate, run nodes, and verify transactions independently.

The virtual format, as evidenced by shared screenshots of group video calls, fosters collaboration among developers from across Africa.
