The Core’s Meetup 14: A Massive Success as Over 100 Students Join Bitcoin Sessions in Murang’a

EDUCATION COMMUNITY EVENTS

More than 100 students from Murang’a University of Technology attended a Bitcoin education session last week. The first time Nairobi-based group, The Core has held one of its monthly meetups in Murang’a County.

The Core described Meetup 14, held on Saturday, 26 September 2026, as a success. And the second-to-last in-person gathering it plans for the year.

The organisation said the session introduced students to Bitcoin. And to practical ways of using the network, and it credited Trezor Academy with continued support for the monthly events.

“For the first time ever, we visited Murang’a County,” The Core wrote in a recap posted on 30 September. “Over 100+ students from Murang’a University of Technology (MUT) turned up to learn about Bitcoin and how to use the network.”

The group said it expects to return to Murang’a next year. Its final meetup of 2026 is scheduled for next month.

Wallets and local payment tools

During the session, organisers walked students through hot wallets including BlueWallet, the Blockstream app, Blink. And Wallet of Satoshi. They also demonstrated Bitika and Tando, two local platforms used in Kenya to buy and spend Bitcoin.

Ahead of the event, The Core said the programme would cover the history of money, Bitcoin basics, sending. And receiving payments, setting up a Trezor hardware wallet, and the case for using Bitcoin.

Registration had been capped at 100 places. The post-event update reported that more than 100 MUT students attended.

The Core has run the meetup series under the banner “Bringing Bitcoin Closer to You,” with earlier 2026 sessions held in places such as Thika.

Part of a wider education effort

The Core, founded by Felix Mukungu, provides free Bitcoin education online and in person. Its Bitcoin Diploma runs for 24 sessions over two months and is offered four times a year, using a curriculum adapted from My First Bitcoin.

Students who complete the course receive a certificate and small bitcoin rewards. The organisation also supports a circular-economy project in Githurai, Nairobi, where merchants accept Lightning payments, and it has co-hosted larger gatherings such as Bitcoin Unconference events in the capital.

Registration for the October intake of the free online course remains open, The Core said in the same thread. Details are available on its website.

The Murang’a University session extends the group’s campus outreach beyond Nairobi and marks its first recorded meetup in Murang’a County.
