Before Packing for Malawi.

OPINIONS COMMUNITY ECOSYSTEM

What will still matter when the conference Ends?

In a few weeks, you will be in Blantyre.

You will walk into a room full of people who speak the same language of freedom, sovereignty and hope. You will feel the electricity of being among your own. You will take photos. You will feel, for a few days, that the future is closer than it usually feels.

And then the conference will end.

The question is not whether the gathering will be powerful.

The question is what you will still carry when the flights leave and the WhatsApp groups go quiet.

The Feeling We Chase

Be honest with yourself for a moment.

Part of why you go is the feeling.

The shared conviction.

The sense that something historic is happening and you are inside it.

That feeling is real. It has kept many of us going through the hard years.

But feelings fade.

Photos age.

The real test begins the Monday after everyone goes home.

So ask yourself now, while it is still quiet:

When the last keynote ends and the last group photo is taken, what will you measure?

Will it be how many new people you met?

Or how many of those people will still be using Bitcoin three months from now without anyone watching?

The Gap We Rarely Name

Every year the stories get better.

Every year the stage looks more impressive.

Every year we leave saying the movement is accelerating.

Yet a quieter truth sits underneath the celebration:

Many of the merchants who accepted sats for the cameras stopped accepting them once the visitors left.

Many of the wallets that were set up during workshops were never opened again.

Many of the projects that looked unstoppable on stage needed another grant just to stay alive.

This is not an attack on anyone who has built, taught, or shown up.

It is a mirror.

And the bigger the conference becomes, the clearer the reflection gets.

You have attended before.

You have posted the photos.

You have felt the pride.

Now sit with this:

Have we become better at creating moments than at creating lasting use?

What Malawi Will Ask of You.

This year’s gathering is different.

The ecosystem is no longer new.

The funding is no longer scarce.

The story is no longer unknown.

Which means the old ways of measuring success are no longer enough.

When you sit in that hall in Blantyre, will you only celebrate how far we have come?

Or will you also ask the harder questions out loud?

Questions like:

How many sats actually moved in the host city after previous conferences?

Which projects are still serving real people without needing the spotlight to survive?

Where is the gap between the stories we love to tell and the daily reality most Africans still live?

If we cannot ask these questions in the biggest room we have, where will we ever ask them?

The Choice That Belongs to You.

The organizers can build the stage.
The speakers can deliver the lines.
The energy can be high.
But the honesty of the gathering will be decided by the people in the seats.
That means you.
Will you come ready only to be inspired?
Or will you come ready to examine what “progress” has actually meant?
Will you leave with more contacts in your phone — or with clearer standards for what real adoption looks like when no one is filming?
The countdown is real.
The tickets are being bought.
The flights are being booked.
Before you pack, sit with one final question a little longer than feels comfortable:

When the conference ends and the photos are posted, what will you still be able to point to as real?

That answer will shape more than just this December.

It will shape what Bitcoin actually becomes on this continent.

See you in Blantyre.

Come ready.
