Africa Bitcoin Corporation Aquis Listing Delayed Due to Technical Matter

BUSINESS

The Africa Bitcoin Corporation Aquis listing will not go ahead this month as planned. The company announced the delay on 14 August 2026.

Trading was due to start on 17 August. It would have run on the Access segment of the UK’s Aquis Growth Market, alongside a placing of roughly £250,000.

The company blamed a “technical matter.” It has not said more, but it has promised a revised date in due course.

What the Listing Was Meant to Do

Africa Bitcoin Corporation trades as JSE: BAC and under several other international tickers. It is widely recognised as the first publicly listed African firm to adopt a Bitcoin treasury strategy.

The Aquis debut was meant to open the shares to UK and European investors. It would also have let them buy in sterling.

The company acknowledged the postponement again around 17 August. One post joked that “African Time” now applies to capital markets too. Still, it stressed that the London listing remains on the roadmap.

A Dual Model: Bitcoin and Private Credit

The business runs on two pillars.

First, it holds Bitcoin as a strategic reserve. It also uses that Bitcoin as collateral to lower its cost of capital.

Second, it runs a private-credit platform. This arm lends to small and medium-sized enterprises across Africa on a secured basis.

The aim is to close part of Africa’s SME funding gap. Meanwhile, the Bitcoin sits inside a business that generates cash.

Founder and CEO Warren Wheatley has led both efforts. He has also driven the push for wider international listings.

Why the Africa Bitcoin Corporation Aquis Listing Matters

Institutional interest in Bitcoin treasury companies keeps growing. So the timing of this delay is unfortunate.

A successful debut would have widened the shareholder base. It would also have raised the profile of an African-led model that ties Bitcoin holdings to real-economy lending.

The company has not explained the technical matter. However, it says the delay is temporary and that preparations continue.

Where the Shares Already Trade

Africa Bitcoin Corporation is no stranger to public markets. It already holds listings and quotations in five venues.

These are the Johannesburg Stock Exchange Main Board, A2X, the Namibia Securities Exchange, OTCQB in the United States, and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Aquis was the next step in that expansion.

For now, investors wait for a new date. Until then, the company keeps running its Bitcoin and private-credit model under Wheatley.

The episode shows how difficult cross-border listings can be. It also shows how determined African Bitcoin firms are to reach global capital.
